Areas in the Classroom

Our classroom Examples How it works?
Welcome Students enter the classroom and put away their belongings in the cubbies to the left, then they grab their check schedule cue to start their school day.
Independent Work Areas   This is one of the independent work areas  located throughout the classroom where students practice skills that they already know.  Each work station is individualized to meet the needs of the particular student.

One-on-One Learning Area This is one of the areas where the teacher is able to work one-on-one with the student to teach new skills.
Group Activity Area This is where the students participate in group activities.
Transition Area This is the transition area where most of the students go to check their schedules.
Computer Area This is the area where the students are able to use the computer independently.
Reading Table Area This is the area where the students are able to choose reading as a leisure activity.
Listening Table Area This is the area where the students are able to choose to sit and listen to a book on tape or music.
     
     
     

SCHEDULES

Schedules Our Classroom Examples How it works?
     
Word Checklist Schedule This student has a list of his daily activities that he checks off of his list when he is finished.  This is a full day schedule.
     
Single Word Schedule with transitional cue This student checks his schedule and then takes the word to the scheduled activity and matches the word cue card to the activity.  This schedule is a full day schedule.
Picture/Symbol and Words Schedule with transitional cue This student checks his schedule and then takes the picture/symbol cue  to the scheduled activity and matches the picture/symbol to the activity.  This schedule is a full day, full week schedule.
     
Object Sequence Schedule with transitional object/cue This student checks his schedule and then takes the object in the first box on the left to the scheduled activity and matches the object with the same object.  This is a partial day schedule, the student is able to see what the next few activities are on his schedule.

Single Object Schedule with transitional object/cue

This student uses his check schedule cue, to come to the schedule area and then takes the object from the box and brings the object to the designated area in the classroom where he matches the object with the same object.  This is a single activity schedule.

Work Systems Our Classroom Examples How it works?
Written Instruction Work System The student checks his schedule and proceeds to the independent work station.  The student reads the list of activities that he needs to complete.  He then goes and finds those activities on the work counter.  When he is finished he returns his work to the designated finished basket.
Matching Numbers Work System The student brings the schedule cue to the independent work station.  Then the student will go get his work by matching the purple numerals to numerals on the work counter.  When the student is finished he takes it to the designated finished box.
Object Match Work System Student brings the schedule cue to the independent work station.  Then the student will match the colored blocks to work in a left to right progression.  The finished container is on the other side of the desk.
Left to Right Work System Student brings the schedule cue to the independent work station.  The task sitting on the left side of the desk is the student's assignment and when the student is finished he will place it in the finished container on the right.

It Clarifies
  The task is clarified by the color coding of the writing and the color of the vehicles. The task is clarified by the highlighted letters to emphasize the state abbreviation. 
It Organizes
  The task is organized by the container arrangement, sequencing the order that the task should be completed. The task is organized by the container arrangement (left to right) and the folder keeps all of the answers organized and it one place. 
It Instructs
  The task instructs by showing a product sample of where each type of utensil should be placed.  The task instructs by showing a jig with arrow to show where each piece should be placed.
