Accelerated Reader (AR) is a nationally recognized reading practice program used at Hopi Elementary. The Hopi school supports AR by purchasing books and quizzes for students whose teachers gather student AR data. Hopi AR titles can be found by searching the Hopi catalog. AR titles are books that may be found in public libraries, classroom libraries, home libraries, book stores, or Hopi school library. Most Hopi classroom libraries and the school library have AR books leveled for students.

AR is not a complete reading program nor is it proven that reading for a reward makes a life long reader. (McCarthy, Cheryl. "Is the Tail Wagging the Dog?" School Library Media Activities Monthly Nov. 2003: 23-26.)
