Course Description
This course is designed to provide the students with experience in marching
and performing at football games and festivals. The students will also gain valuable skills to effectively
execute drill designs, self-criticism, and artistic principles of musical
expression.
Course Objectives
It is assumed that the students taking this course have had previous music
experience. This class is not for the
beginning instrumentalist. Upon
completion of this course the student should be able to demonstrate the
following skills:
1. Technical skills of marching
2. Aspects of artistic musical performance
3. Skills in rehearsal preparation and procedures
4. Evaluation skills
5. Leadership skills
6. Teaming skills
7. Technical skills in music performance
Course Structure
The format of this course will be indoor music rehearsals, outdoor marching
rehearsals, and sectional rehearsals.
Text and Required Materials
* Each student must have a
lyre and marching folder
* Each student must have a
pencil for all rehearsals
* Each student must have an
instrument in good working
condition
* Each student must have
marching shoes, band shirt, gloves
Evaluation Method
80 % of the grade will be based on
regular rehearsaland festival
attendance, attitude, and preparation
20% of the grade will be based on the member's
classroom
test.
Each day in band the student will receive 20 points if they are
prepared for class
Festivals count for 100 points
Football games for 50 points (10 points will be deducted for not coming in
complete
uniform)
5 points will be deducted for each tardy
5 points will be deducted for coming unprepared
Tardies count double on festival and performance days. Read the section on Tardies and attendance
in the handbook for more detail.
Course Policies
* Regular attendance is
expected
* Regular evaluation in class
is impossible to reschedule
* All written assignments
must be typed
* Performances are considered
test and must be excused by
Mrs. Irvin or Dr. Bennett
if going to be missed two weeks prior unless
emergency, if unexcused
will result in a F.

Marching Band ends on November 13, there will be no more morning rehearsals
after this date.
