HealthCare Assistant I (Applied Biological Science):
10, 11, 12th grade - 1 year (Co, S)

**Magnet Course taught at Saguaro and Scottsdale Healthcare Hospitals,
but open to all SUSD High School students

This is a course for students interested in a health care field.  Students will study the human body, human health needs, including human diseases and infection control, vital signs, first aid, CPR, nutrition, and legal and ethical considerations of health professions.  Provides one non-lab science credit and meets the Career/Technical Education requirement. 
Prerequisite:  Biology (concurrent enrollment acceptable.)

Health Care Assistant II (Nursing Services):
11, 12th grade - 1 year (S)

This course provides basic training and experience in various health careers with an emphasis on the nursing assistant. Students learn entry level skills and concepts in their career area of choice including EMT/paramedic, X-ray tech, lab tech, physical therapy, medical assistant, occupational therapy, nursing etc. Successful nursing assistant students qualify for CNA status (Certified Nursing Assistant).
Prerequisite:  Biology, C grade or better and a 2.5 GPA or better. Chemistry is strongly recommended. Class size is limited.

 
 
Healthcare Assistant III (Nursing Services):
12th grade - 1 year ( S)

This course provides advanced training in various health careers and may include concurrent enrollment at a community college for selected coureses and/or placement at a clinical setting under the guidence of an on-site preceptor. Learning will focus on an in-depth exploration of a selected medical career such as nursing, EMT, or physical therapy assistant among others. The will be learned through classroom and laboratory experiences and placement in various heath care institutions in the community. A Uniform is required.
Prerequisite:  Successful completion (grade of C or better) of biology, chemistry, Health Care II, GPA 2.5 or better, successful completion of HCC 130 and 145 recommended (Community College courses offered through dual enrollment in Health Care II) and approval of the district Health Care Instructor. Pharmacy tech and EMT students must be at least 18 years old.
