Drafting/Visual Communications I:
9, 10, 11th grade - 1 year (Ch)

**Magnet course taught at Chaparral, but open to all SUSD High School Students.
This course provides skill development in drafting/visual communications processes in engineering, architecture, construction and technology fields. Instruction includes the use of drafting tools, instruments and materials, sketching, drawing, problem-solving, graphic language, geometric constructions, isometric drawings, auxiliary and sectional views, and career exploration.
Fee: $10 per year

 
 
Drafting/Visual Communications II:
10, 11th grade - 1 year(Ch)

**Magnet course taught at Chaparral, but open to all SUSD High School Students.
This course provides intermediate skill development in drafting/visual communications. Instruction includes precision, speed and accuracy, multi-view projection, machine parts representations, perspective drawing, structural drawing, technical sketching, shape description, blueprinting, computer-aided design and career exploration.
Prerequisite:Drafting/Visual Communications I.
Fees: $10 per year

 
 
Engineering Design:
11, 12th grade - 1 year (Ch )

**Magnet course taught at Chaparral, but open to all SUSD High School Students.
This course offers the student hands-on training in all aspects of drafting design with traditional methods and computer-aided design. Students will learn the basic principles of design and drafting theory practice. Students are responsible for maintaining a professional portfolio. Students will participate in producing technical drawings used by engineers and architects. They will participate in workshops and lectures prepared by working professionals.Approximately 20% of class time will be teacher-directed learning and 80% lab. This course can be taken for one, two or three credits.

 
 
Architectural Design:
11, 12th grade - 1 year (Ch)

**Magnet course taught at Chaparral, but open to all SUSD High School Students.
This course offers the advanced student in-dept instructions involving many careers in the drafting, engineering, architecture and technical fields. The student will concentrate efforts in three of the following areas: mechanical, architectural, technical illustration electronic, structural and topographical. The course also includes the use of reproductive techniques, equipment, processes, development of charts and graphs and the applications of the computer-aided drafting system. Participation in SkillsUSA is part of the related class instruction. Approximately 20% of class time will be teacher-directed learning and 80% lab.
Prerequisite: Engineering design or instructor approval.This course can be taken for one, two or three credits.
