My name is Nirmala Thuraisingam. I am fondly addressed as Ms. Nima.

I hope you find the pages in my site useful in keeping up with our classroom activities and to obtain information about autism. Some of the pages will be updated on a regular basis, and some will be changed only rarely. It is my goal to make this a communication tool for your use.

This is my third year at Desert Canyon Middle School. I taught students with Hearing Impairment in Malaysia prior to embarking on an interesting and educational journey in the United States of America. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special education from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona. My passion is working in the special education field. It has been very instrumental for me to have the opportunity to implement the FRIENDS Program with the STUGO class at DCMS. The ‘Friends Program’ is adapted from the Friend program developed by the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) focusing on Autism awareness.

I have an open door policy. Please feel free to contact me or drop in to observe or experience my classroom. I can be contacted at (480) 484-1700 ext 4501.
