About My Classroom

 Grading Procedures                             Pre-algebra/Algebra I

Mrs. Mendelson

Each student will be evaluated in the following areas:

Homework & Class Work (35%)

Participation in all class activities and completion of all homework assignments is expected. Each student is responsible for completing all daily/weekly in class and out of class assignments. The form and difficulty level of assignments will vary and will include participation and percentage grades. If absent for an assignment, the student is responsible for checking with a homework buddy or my web page. When returning to school, the student may check the agenda board and with the teacher for more, specific details. This grade category will also include journal writing, student portfolios, and participation in classroom discussion, attitude, and effort.

Weekly Review Sheet & AIMS Preparation (15%)

Students will be completing a weekly review sheet nearly each week of each quarter. The weekly review sheet consists of 10 problems that review previous curriculum in the 7th and 8th grade standards. The purpose of the weekly review sheet is to reinforce and maintain all math skills by SHOWING ALL WORK for each of the 10 problems. The weekly review sheet is given as a long-term assignment each week. In addition to the weekly review sheets, student will be expected to fully participate in all AIMS testing preparation activities. The assignments will vary in length and may be completed in class or for homework. Students will best prepare themselves for high school by taking this component of their grade very seriously.

Tests & Quizzes (50%)

This includes any written or oral evaluation as well as any specific presentation(s) given by a student in class. In class as well as take home evaluations will be given. In some cases, partner assessments will take place. Students will be WELL INFORMED in advance of assessment opportunities (see agenda board or teacher web page). It is expected that each student be prepared and present for each assessment opportunity. Please note that some AIMS preparation assessments may be included in this grade category.
