Grading
Procedures Pre-algebra/Algebra I Mrs. Mendelson Each student will be evaluated
in the following areas: Homework
& Class Work (35%) Participation in all class
activities and completion of all homework assignments is expected. Each student
is responsible for completing all daily/weekly in class and out of class
assignments. The form and difficulty level of assignments will vary and will
include participation and percentage grades. If absent for an assignment, the
student is responsible for checking with a homework buddy or my web page. When
returning to school, the student may check the agenda board and with the
teacher for more, specific details. This grade category will also include
journal writing, student portfolios, and participation in classroom discussion,
attitude, and effort. Weekly
Review Sheet & AIMS Preparation (15%) Students will be completing a
weekly review sheet nearly each week of each quarter. The weekly review sheet
consists of 10 problems that review previous curriculum in the 7th
and 8th grade standards. The purpose of the weekly review sheet is
to reinforce and maintain all math skills by SHOWING ALL WORK for each of the
10 problems. The weekly review sheet is given as a long-term assignment each
week. In addition to the weekly review sheets, student will be expected to
fully participate in all AIMS testing preparation activities. The assignments
will vary in length and may be completed in class or for homework. Students
will best prepare themselves for high school by taking this component of their
grade very seriously. Tests &
Quizzes (50%) This includes any written or
oral evaluation as well as any specific presentation(s) given by a student in
class. In class as well as take home evaluations will be given. In some cases,
partner assessments will take place. Students will be WELL INFORMED in advance
of assessment opportunities (see agenda board or teacher web page). It is
expected that each student be prepared and present for each assessment
opportunity. Please note that some AIMS preparation assessments may be included
in this grade category.
