Technology Education & Career Exploration!

Have a safe and restful summer.

START SMART - AUGUST 11, 2008

The Technology Education and Career Exploration program at Cocopah Middle School is designed to introduce students to various areas of technology and careers through hands-on activities. While working with a partner, students will learn about aerodynamics, animation, architecture, career opportunities, communications, construction, computer design, digital photography, manufacturing, rocketry, transportation, virtual reality, and other technologies, and how each of these impact our lives. Careers in a variety of these areas will be explored.

A module system is used in this program. It encourages students to become responsible for their own learning. Each module lasts for five to ten days. Students will receive direct and self-directed instruction in the Tech Lab. By providing an even balance between computer driven, video, written, and hands-on instruction, students will be motivated and energized to stay on task. Students will be required to work on the module assigned and keep a portfolio current.

If a student is absent during their Tech Lab period, they are still expected to participate by completing an absentee activity. A list of absentee activities is available from the instructor or may be found on this web site under Absentee Activities.

Failure to follow any safety instructions could result in receiving a warning, having parents called for conference, disciplinary action from the assistant principal or principal, and/or being suspended from the Tech Lab.
