Read and Lead is a school-wide program that is designed to promote improved reading skills and habits as well as reading for fun and enjoyment. Our goal is for K-6 students to choose to read regularly and accumulate at least 3000 minutes by the first of May. The goal for 7-8 students is to read 3000 minutes per semester. Whether you read with your child or not, discussing what has been read really helps build comprehension. Possible discussion topics may include what connections he/she made while reading, what questions arose, any interesting or unusual words discovered, what predictions can be made about what’s to come, or thoughts on the story elements (character, plot, theme). Students are responsible for recording minutes read on a form and turning it into the Read and Lead bin located in the school library.
