            OPEC imposed an Oil Embargo, which caused gas prices to skyrocket.

            Busing of students to other parts of the city to go to school

            The first landing on the moon occurred during Nixon’s presidency

            Woodstock

Nixon secretary of state was Henry Kissinger  he won the Nobel Peace Prize for ending the Vietnam War

Kissinger brought about détente a relaxation between the U.S. and China and Russia

Proliferation  growth of nuclear arms

SALT 1 set a number for the total of ICBM  AND SLBMs

Watergate

            Wiretaps on democratic headquarters     People were caught and paid and the cover up went all the way to the president

     Woodward and Bernstein were the reporters which uncovered the wrong doings

Nixon resigned and Gerald Ford became president

Ford pardoned Nixon because he  wanted to maintain domestic tranquillity

Ford faced a recession in the mid 70s

            And a hostile congress

            30 European countries agreed to cooperate economically, respect existing boundaries, and promote human rights.

            In a revolt the shah of Iran was ousted and Carter let him come to the U.S. for medical treatment   In protest Iranians took over the American Embassy in Tehran holding 60 Americans hostage   444 days held captive
