"The Incredible Edible Cell!"

You will be required to construct a model of an animal cell. All models must be made out of edible materials that will remain fresh for at least 3 days without refrigeration. Avoid using materials that have an unpleasant odor or that may be considered offensive!

Your project should include the following parts:

Each model must include all of the following organelles:

• Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
• Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
• Cell membrane
• Golgi Apparatus
• Nucleus
• Nucleolus
• Ribosomes (attached)
• Ribosomes (free)
• Mitochondria
• Nuclear Envelope
• Vacuoles
• Cytoplasm
• Lysosomes
• Nuclear Pore
• Cytoskeleton
• Centrioles

Your project will be graded upon the following criteria:

• Your name, hour, and number are clearly seen on your project - 1 point.
• The model is a 3-D representation of a plant or animal cell - 2 points.
• All of the organelles are included - 16 for animal cell - 30 points.
• The organelles are correctly labeled. Each organelle must be labeled with its name and thorough function. You may label each organelle or use a key - 30 points.
• The relationships between the parts  are shown correctly. For example, certain organelles are located next to other certain organelles because of their function - 20 points.
• The materials are acceptable - 2 points.
• The model is less than 30 centimeters on any side - 2 points.
• The cell is well-built and does not easily fall apart - 3 points.

General information:

You may use the following materials, but they cannot count as part of the cell: container, plastic wrap, paper, or toothpicks. Keep in mind that these projects will be eaten after they have been graded! BONUS: You could be awarded with a bonus (5 extra points) if your project is selected to be the "Most Accurate," Most Attractive," or "Most Disgusting."

Your project will be worth 100 points.  Cells that are turned in late will not be accepted…no ifs, ands, or buts about it! Do not, I repeat, do not wait until the last possible moment to start your project. This is your project, therefore, your responsibility. Take pride in your work and show me how brilliant and creative you can be!
