Mrs. MacColl's Biology Page

Welcome!  The purpose of this page is to make it easier for you to access important information and happenings that are going on in my Biology classes.  My hope is that you will not have to visit every page in my tool bar to find out what you should know.

5/12/08 - Please remind your child of the following:

Don't forget the following on the day of your final:

1. Your textbook

2. All 8 of your tests

3. Your "Late Homework Pass" (if you have one)

4. Your "Bonus Points" (if you have any)

5. Your "Survival Guide" (Bio IH's only)

4/21/08 - Please encourage your child to review their notes, labs, and activities every night; it will help them prepare for the Invertebrate and Vertebrate Lab Practicals.  These tests are in a few weeks.

4/03/08 - All of my freshman and sophomores will be taking the Biology AIMS on Wednesday.  This test will count as a test grade in my class and be averaged in to my students' second semester grades.  Please encourage your child to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast!  I will review with my students on Friday.  They will take home a practice packet as well.  Please encourage them to review their tests from the entire year.

3/28/08 - I am still in need of a few chaperones for our field trip to the IMAX Theater on Friday, April 18th.  Please email me jmaccoll@susd.org if you are interested!  :)

3/7/08 - ATTENTION!  ATTENTION!  ATTENTION!  Your child has the chance to earn 10, yes 10, bonus points over break.  Here's how:

Visit the AZ Natural History Museum in Mesa and answer the following question.  "During the last 12 years how has the view of dinosaurs radically changed?"  Be sure to staple your admission ticket to your answer.

This is an incredible exhibit...fun for the whole family!  :)

2/27/08 - HELP, I NEED SOMEBODY.  HELP, NOT JUST ANYBODY.  HEEEELLLLP!  I am in need of 8 more chaperones.  If you are interested please email me.  (jmaccoll@susd.org)  :)

2/22/08 - ATTENTION ALL PARENTS INTERESTED IN CHAPERONING A SUPER FUN FIELD TRIP!  I am in need of 15 chaperones for the IMAX field trip on 4/18.  If you are interested in chaperoning this fabulous trip please email me:  jmaccoll@susd.org.  I sent home a permission slip with your children today.  The cost of the field trip is $10.  Students are to bring their money to the bookstore by Friday.  They are to staple their receipt on their SIGNED permission slip and give to me.

2/15/08 - Students in my Bio I class have a quiz on genetic engineering on Tuesday.  They can use the notes they have been taking during the presentations.  :)

2/13/08 - Please check your child's grades online!  Progress reports just went out, but only for students with D's and F's.

2/11/08 - My Bio I students will be presenting their presentations to the class Monday - Thursday.  They will be responsible for taking notes and asking questions during each of their classmates presentations.  They will have a quiz on Friday demonstrating their knowledge of genetic engineering.  My Bio IH students will be preparing for a classroom debate on stem cell research.  They will have Monday - Wednesday in class to work with their groups to prepare.  They should also be researching at home so they can bring new ideas to their group the next day.  The debate will take place on Thursday and Friday.  All students are to dress for success...ties and shirts (no jeans) for the boys and dress pants and skirts (no jeans) for the girls.

2/04/08 - Just as a heads up...your child should be working on his/her project.  Bio I is working on a PowerPoint presentation on a genetic engineering topic.  Bio IH is working on their Stem Cell Research portfolio.  Each project is due next week on Monday, 2/11.  Also, the Heredity test is tomorrow.  One way you can help your child prepare is to give them practice problems.  Practice problems can be found in their Interactive Notebook.
