Your child’s spelling words are from the Fry’s word list. This list contains 600 words, the first 300 of which make up 65% of all written material contained in newspaper articles, magazines, textbooks, children’s stories, novels and more

We started the year with a word recognition test; identifying a spelling list for each individual student.

Each week the student is quizzed on their own personal spelling list. Words they have mastered will be added to their own word ring. Words they cannot yet spell will be carried over to next week’s list and new words from the Fry’s list will be sequentially added.

Each week Ks will have 5 spelling words and 1 & 2s will have 10 words.

At the beginning of each week, students will write their personal spelling words on flash cards.
