Welcome to Ms. Alonas’s Web Page

Fourth Grade at Hohokam Elementary

I’m very pleased you are visiting my web page.  I hope you find the pages in my site useful in keeping up with our classroom activities.  Some of the pages will be updated on a regular basis, and some will be changed only rarely.

It is my goal to make this a communication tool for your use.  If your student is absent, or has difficulty remembering to bring home homework assignments or activity reminders, this website may be helpful.  I will do my best to keep it current.

Expectations for Fourth Grade

Our goal in fourth grade is to help each and every child become a successful learner and a responsible and productive student.  We have high expectations for our students and also for ourselves as teachers.   Here are some ways you can help your student succeed in fourth grade:

·        Make sure your child is at school every day.  Your child will miss out on important learning opportunities if they are absent.  When your child returns from an absence, he/she is responsible for collecting any missed work.  Your student will have one day for each day absent to complete and turn in all missed work.

·        Review with your child homework assignments.  Homework extends in class learning and also helps the student build responsibility.  Each student is expected to copy all assignments into their agenda book at the end of every day.  Learning to use an agenda book is an important skill for success in middle school.

·        Celebrate your child’s successes by attending open houses and conferences.  There will be special events scheduled during the year and we welcome your participation.  Your interest will motivate your child to reach their potential and encourage them to regard school as important work.

·        Make sure your child has a good night’s sleep.  Children need their rest in order to concentrate and learn in school.

·        Ask your child to show you the work he/she did in school and explain what they did.  This will help reinforce the concepts your student is learning.

·        Encourage your child to read at home for enjoyment.  Reading material can include magazines, newspapers, instruction manuals, and chapter books; it should be something your child is interested in.
