Welcome to
my Classroom Website
I hope you find the pages in my site useful in
keeping up with our classroom activities.
Some of the pages will be updated on a regular basis, and some will be
changed rarely.
It is my goal to make this a communication tool for your use. If your student is absent, or has difficulty remembering to bring home homework assignments or activity reminders, this website may be helpful. I will do my best to keep it current.
A little about who I am as a teacher. As
a teacher of young children I have four major goals for my students. I want my students to develop a
disposition to learn, to increase their understanding of the world around them,
to develop the learning strategies and skills necessary to do so, and to
acquire a feeling of self-worth and an empathy for and community with their
fellow students. This can only
occur in a setting that is child-centered and developmentally appropriate in
the books and materials available to the children. Lessons taught must be relevant and related to the
children’s prior understanding in order to engage their minds. Since children learn and develop at
different rates and in different manners, and their interests and needs vary,
time and opportunity must be allowed for the children to work cooperatively
together in developing their skills and knowledge. The classroom teacher must make accommodations for the
variety of skills, needs, interests, and aptitudes that students bring to
school in order to respect the integrity of each child.
It
is my responsibility to see that these goals are achieved by the students. The attainment of the goals listed
above is the criteria of measurement for my success as a teacher. If my students have achieved the
standards set by my district; cannot wait to return to school in the fall; have
de-centered sufficiently to become thoughtful, caring friends with an
inclusionary attitude towards others; feel capable and worthy as individuals
with greater skills and a broader knowledge base; and have a desire to
challenge themselves to learn and to do more; then, I can view myself as
successful.
