Description:  The Study Strategies class is an elective class designed to assist students in improving academic skill areas as well as organizational and study skills.  Students also learn to become self-advocates as they prepare for transition from high-school to post-secondary settings.  Most students who attend this class have a specific learning disability in one or more of three qualifying areas – written expression, reading, or math.

Requirements:

  • Students will follow the Scottsdale School District’s Code of Conduct and Attendance policy
  • Students will be in attendance and on time to class
  • Students will be respectful of themselves and others
  • Students will do their personal best and have enthusiasm for learning
  • Students will develop self-advocacy skills by communicating their needs and by being resourceful and responsible.
  • Students will maintain a daily planner by writing down class assignments and upcoming tests.
  • Students will complete academic class assignments, work independently when possible, and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Students will monitor their grades and coursework and complete tri-weekly grade checkpoints.

Evaluation/Grades: Students will receive 5 points for journal entries, 5 points for an in-class activity, 5 points for keeping a daily planner, and 10 points for using their class time wisely and working the whole period.  This amounts to a maximum of 25 points a day.  Also, students will complete tri-weekly grade checkpoint sheets to monitor their progress in classes which will be worth 10 points.  Students will receive a letter grade based on their class points.

**All students can be successful and I want to be a part of your success!
